Sustainability

We don't believe sustainability should be a separate layer added to a product. It should be part of how the product is thought about from the beginning.

What is it made from?
How will it be used?
How often will it be reused?
Will it last?
Can it be cared for?
Does it genuinely solve a problem?

These questions influence what we design, what we make and what we choose not to make. For us, sustainability is less about making big claims and more about making better everyday choices.

Buy better. Use longer.

We live in a world where replacing something can sometimes be easier than taking care of it. At Dcluttr, we want to encourage a different approach. When the things we own are protected and organised properly, they can remain useful for longer. That is why our products are designed around protection, reuse and longevity.

A handbag cover isn't simply another storage product. It can help protect a handbag from dust, friction and everyday exposure. A saree cover helps give special garments a dedicated place in the wardrobe. A shoe bag keeps footwear protected and organised between uses. A reusable shopping bag can be used repeatedly instead of being replaced every time you shop. The objective is simple: Help the things you already own stay useful for longer.

Sustainability starts with less waste

We don't believe sustainability means filling your home with more products labelled “eco-friendly.” If something doesn't solve a genuine problem, we don't think it needs to exist. Our approach starts with thoughtful consumption.

Buy what you need.
Choose products that serve a real purpose.
Use them repeatedly.
Take care of them.
Keep them useful for as long as possible.

For us, that is a more meaningful way to think about sustainability. Less unnecessary consumption. More thoughtful use.

Designed for repeated use

Many everyday storage products are used once, discarded, and replaced. We want to move in the opposite direction. Our fabric products are designed to become part of your everyday routines — opened, folded, washed, stored, reused and used again. The more times a product can perform its intended purpose, the more value it can deliver over its useful life. That's why we think beyond the first use.

We consider:

Durability
How well does the product stand up to everyday use?

Functionality
Does it genuinely make life easier?

Reusability
Can it be used again and again?

Care
Can it be cleaned and maintained?

Longevity
Will it remain useful beyond the season or trend that inspired it?

Materials matter

We work with a range of fabrics including cotton, cotton canvas, poplin, chambray, yarn-dyed fabrics, voile, cambric, jacquard, dobby, seersucker, waffle and basket weaves. We don't choose a material simply because it sounds sustainable. We consider whether it is appropriate for the product, how it performs, how it feels, how it can be cared for and how well it supports repeated use. Natural and fabric-based materials can offer important advantages in everyday products — particularly when they are made into products that are used repeatedly and cared for properly.

But we also believe in being honest: No material is automatically sustainable simply because it is natural. The way a material is sourced, processed, manufactured, used and eventually disposed of all matters. That is why we prefer to make measured claims rather than easy ones.

We design for the life of the product

Sustainability isn't only about what happens when a product is made. It is also about what happens after it reaches your home. A product that looks beautiful but stops being useful after a few months isn't a product we want to build. We therefore think about the complete everyday life of what we make.

Make it well.
Use it often.
Care for it.
Keep it longer.

That is the standard we are working towards.

Reuse is a habit

Some of the most sustainable products are simply the ones we use repeatedly. A reusable shopping bag doesn't need to be extraordinary. It simply needs to become the bag you remember to carry. A fabric storage bag doesn't need to promise to change the world. It needs to work well enough that you keep using it. We believe sustainability becomes meaningful when it becomes habitual rather than aspirational. Our goal is to create products that naturally fit into those habits. We don't want to greenwash. We are still building Dcluttr.

We are learning about materials, manufacturing, packaging, logistics and the impact of the choices we make. We don't want to describe ourselves as a “100% sustainable” brand or make environmental claims that are difficult to prove. Instead, we want to be transparent about where we are today and continuously improve from there. There will always be more we can do.

Better materials.
Better construction.
Better packaging.
Less waste.
More efficient processes.
Longer-lasting products.

We intend to keep working on them. Sustainability is not a finish line for us. It is a direction.

Thoughtful design is sustainable design

For us, good design and sustainability are closely connected. When something is designed well, it tends to be used more. When it is useful, it is less likely to be abandoned. When it lasts, it doesn't need to be replaced as often. And when it helps you care for the things you already own, it can help those things stay useful for longer. That's why our sustainability philosophy begins with design. Make something worth keeping.

Our commitment

As Dcluttr grows, we want to become more thoughtful about every stage of what we do. We will continue to work towards:

Better materials
Choosing materials based on performance, longevity and suitability — not just appearance.

Longer-lasting products
Improving construction, stitching, finishing and functionality so products remain useful.

Reusable products
Creating products that become part of everyday routines rather than one-time solutions.

Thoughtful packaging
Reducing unnecessary packaging and exploring better packaging choices as we grow.

Less waste
Looking for opportunities to reduce material waste throughout development and production.

Honest communication
Making sustainability claims we can genuinely stand behind.

It starts at home

We don't believe one storage bag will solve the world's environmental problems. But we do believe that the way we treat everyday things matters. A home where things are organised is easier to live in. A home where things are protected can reduce unnecessary replacement. A product that is reused hundreds of times can become more meaningful than one designed to be discarded. And a habit repeated every day can become a way of life. This is the kind of sustainability we want Dcluttr to encourage. Not perfection.

Just better choices, made more often.

Because sometimes, the most sustainable thing you can do is simply take better care of what you already have.
